The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is seeking a Dental Assistant for its Endodontic Division to join the patient care team. Endodontic Division faculty, dental students and staff are specially trained in the use of advanced technologies, such as digital imaging, operating microscopes and ultrasonic for diagnosing and treating oral and facial pain, and problems associated with the inside of the tooth. The college’s Dental Assistant for Endodontics is an important function in the health care delivery system in the College. The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs Summary Provides support of patient treatment and graduate endodontic education in the Endodontic Division, within the College of Dentistry; prepares and maintains instruments and clinical activities; will serve as chair-side dental assistant performing four-hand chair-side dental assisting and radiography; serves as an additional surgical assistant in Graduate Endodontics Clinic; maintains and troubleshoots dental equipment; may order general supplies for clinic. Work Schedule Monday through Friday 7:30AM – 4:30PM – 60 minute lunch Compensation $17.31 – $22.77 /hour Requirements A dental assistant needs to be able to: use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental hand pieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for hand pieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex Experience and Education: Required: Minimum Education Required Per Classified Civil Svc Specs Required Qualifications Required: 3 months experience (3 courses) in dental office practices and procedures; 3 months experience (3 courses) in dental operatory practices and procedures; 3 months experience (3 courses) in four-handed assisting techniques; 3 months experience (3 courses) in inventory record-keeping; 3 months experience (300 hrs. training) in care of dental equipment; 1 month experience (100 hrs. training) in using a computer. (Including license, if any.) MUST PASS HEALTH STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS PRESCRIBED BY LAW PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT (e.g., hepatitis, vaccination series, and TB test). Must be registered with the Ohio Dental Board as a Dental Assistant Radiographer Desired: One to two yearsxe2x80x99 experience and knowledge of a wide variety of dental instruments; and more specifically endodontic instruments and processes, experience in an educational setting, computer literacy including Microsoft Office and internet/email desired.
