Learn more about us: https://dhip.dukehealth.org/about-us JOB LOCATION: Duke Innovative Pain Therapies Clinic – 234 Crooked Creek Pkwy JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a Dental Assistant in our Duke Innovative Pain Therapies Clinic located in Raleigh, NC to be an integral member of the healthcare team to provide direct and indirect care to patients. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in daily huddles with providers and clinical team Assist in the treatment of patients to include seating patients, providing dentist/physicians/providers with instruments and equipment, chart examination and treatment results on patient’s record Clean and sterilize instruments utilizing autoclave, assemble instruments, supplies and equipment required for specific procedures. Preparing and taking alginate impressions, pouring casts from impressions, preparing cast for shipping (trimming, lab prescription), follow up delivery of devices for patient appointment. Perform patient Cone Beam CT scans, prepare and send images to oral radiologist for reading and reporting, process report results for provider to communicate to patient Perform patient intake reviewing medical history, taking vital signs, medication, confirming purpose of visit and learning assessments. Prepping clinics, obtaining test results, update in charts, verifying insurance and authorizations with front desk staff, coordinating referrals and appointments, medication refills, obtaining prior authorizations Prepare, gather clinic notes, and obtain consent forms and instructions as per medical providers’ request, label patient documents and scan into Maestro Clean clinic exam rooms per practice protocol, proper disposal of sharps containers and biohazard waste Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; restocking of injectable drugs Return patient phone calls/messages and check in-baskets daily JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Dental Assistant Level 1: Dental Asst 1- Requires educational background generally acquired through a high school education & one year dentistry related experience OR completion of approved dental assistant course. Dental Asst I- To qualify to monitor patients under nitrous oxide, a DA I must successfully complete a NC Board-approved 7-hr course in nitrous oxide-oxygen conscious sedation. Radiography Requirements A certified DA I or an assistant who completes an ADA-accredited dental assisting or dental hygiene program may take radiographs without further examination. All others, including those who move to NC from out-of- state, must pass an equivalency exam. Dental Assistant Level 2: Dental Asst II- Meet requirements of a DA 1 and one of the following criteria: 1. Completion of an ADA-accredited dental assisting program 2. Completion of one academic year or longer in an ADA-accredited dental hygiene program 3. Completion of full-time employment/experience as a chairside assistant for two years (3,000 hrs) of the preceding five; a 3-hour course in sterilization & infection control; a 3-hour course in dental office emergencies; radiology training consistent with GS 90-29 (s)(12) 4. Completion of the certification exam administered by the DANB. Dental Asst II- Current CPR certification. To perform coronal polishing, a DA II must complete a 7-hr coronal polishing course meeting NC Board requirements. To monitor patients under nitrous oxide, a DA II must complete a NC Board-approved 7-hr course in nitrous oxide-oxygen conscious sedation. JOB HOURS: The schedule for this position is day shifts. The clinic hours are 7:30-5:30pm.
