SUMMARY: Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the assigned clinic area that includes coordination of resident/student operational needs, coordinate clinical activities and needs with clinical and administrative staff, ordering clinical and laboratory supplies, and participation in instructional presentations to staff and residents. Works collaboratively with management and dental assistant teams within the division and within the department to coordinate the efficient and effective daily operations of the assigned clinical and laboratory areas with consideration of the overall clinical operational needs among departmental components. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Contributes to the clinical and administrative coordination of patient, staff, faculty, and resident schedules. Supports the implementation of policies for patient services, inventory control, and equipment maintenance. Identifies issues and problems regarding clinic policies and procedures. Develops and implements solutions. Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and University rules and regulations that can include disease prevention and infection control, HIPAA, etc. Gathers data for use in the design of the clinic operating budget. Develops and implements training programs for dental assisting students that support the functions of the division and the department including the recruitment of potential future dental assistants. Assists in the orientation of students, residents, or faculty of clinical policies including the use of aseptic technique and the proper use and care of operatories, instruments, and clinical equipment. Ensures the timely ordering of clinical supplies, laboratory supplies, materials, implants and implant components and equipment. Monitors inventory levels, accounts and assigned budgets. Interacts with manufacturing, supply, equipment and sales representatives for pricing information for the purchase of equipment, instruments, and supplies required by clinic operation Verifies procedure/treatment codes as to the accuracy as they pertain to patient treatment per ADA coding and compares that to laboratory orders submitted or implant and component orders requested. Interacts with manufacturing, supply, equipment and sales representatives for pricing information for the purchase of equipment, instruments, and supplies required by prosthodontic clinic operations. Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and University rules and regulations including disease prevention and infection control. Orient and train Post Graduate Residents, Pre-doctoral students and dental assistants to comply and meet standards established with CDC requirements in regard Infection Control in a clinical setting. Serves as Scheduling Coordinator in regard to Undergraduate Students Prosthodontic Surgical and Prosthetic Restorative Assist. Assigning D3 and D4 students to prosthetic procedures according to required points needed for grades. May supervise clinical and administrative staff members in the performance of duties related to general operations of the prosthodontic clinic. May conduct annual performance reviews, educational plans, and corrective action/disciplinary action as needed. May participate in didactic presentations related to clinical assisting techniques. Perform dental assistant duties when there is shortage or need as assigned. Perform other related duties as assigned. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon individual clinic needs. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree in related field. Specialization in dentistry preferred. Five (5) years as a clinical technician. For a specialty clinic, two (2) years must have been in the area of specialty. Prefer at least one (1) year in coordination work or clerical support services. Applicable certifications/licensure in the specialty area by the Maryland State/national regulatory agency/organization. May substitute years of experience for the education requirement Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of the theories, principles, techniques, and practices for the dental specialty area. Skilled in procedures (related to specialty) and in the use of instruments and equipment. Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and present ideas clearly and concisely. Ability to train, supervise and evaluate clinic personnel. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and handle sensitive material with discretion. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and possess strong organizational skills. Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to peers, faculty and staff, is a necessity. Work collaboratively and possess ability to motivate and encourage staff.
