Overview: Location: Fort Wainwright, AK Hours of Performance: The performance hours of the MTF are as follows: In general, all Dental Clinics are open between the hours of 0600-1700, Monday-Friday. Routine Clinic hours may vary by location. Regular dental services may be scheduled between 0600 hrs. (6:00 a.m.) and 2200 (10:00 p.m.) hrs. Monday through Friday, excluding U.S. Federal holidays. Depending on mission requirements, services may be required on weekends. Pay: $60.50/hr + Health & Wellness $4.57/hr worked (in lieu of benefits) Benefits: Vest vacation, sick leave, holiday leave, Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Short Term Disability Optional Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(K) matching with employee participation in 401(K) plan Responsibilities: Examine patient’s oral cavity to include mouth, throat, and pharynx, and record conditions of teeth and surrounding tissues. Refer patients to dentist who have abnormalities to include cavities, defective fillings, suspicious growths, or periodontal disease. Apply desensitizing and other topical agents to treat abnormalities to include gingivitis and oral ulceration. Instruct patients, individually and in groups, in proper oral hygiene care using materials to include teeth models, displays, slides, toothbrushes, dental floss, disclosing tablets and mirrors. Demonstrate proper techniques of brushing, flossing, and use of necessary periodontal aids. Explain the common causes of tooth decay and its relationship to general diet. Take impressions and construct sports/safety mouth guards and soft night guards for vital bleaching. Polish restorations and apply pit and fissure sealants. Chair side dental assisting when directed by the OIC of the dental clinic. Record patients treated. Check and maintain instruments to insure working condition. Clean, sharpen, and sterilize instruments. Patient Workload, Readiness, and Scheduling. Utilizes the Corporate Dental Application to enter patient specific workload and readiness status and also for patient scheduling. Qualifications: Degree/Education: All dental hygienists shall be a graduate of a dental hygiene program that qualifies them to obtain a state license. This training must include coursework on radiation physics, biology, health, safety/protection, X-ray films/digital radiography, image quality, and radiographic techniques that meets or exceeds 42 C.F.R. Part 75 (Credentialing of Radiologic Personnel) requirements. Board Certification: All dental hygienists shall successfully pass the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE) and possess an active, current, valid, and unrestricted license in at least one of the 50 states, and/or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or territories of the United States. Certification: Shall be certified in basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) that is approved by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association and reads Healthcare Provider Course in the subjects listed prior to beginning performance at the Dental Health. License: The license must remain active, current, valid, and unrestricted during the life of the contract. One year experience in the last two years prior to contract execution, as a dental hygienist.
