This position supports delivery of quality dental care by preparing treatment room, patient, instruments, and materials; passing instruments and materials; performing procedures in compliance with prescribed protocols under the direct supervision of a dentist. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: a. Prepares treatment room, patient, instruments and materials under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist. b. Performs chairside assistance for and under direct supervision of a qualified dental care provider. c. Passes instruments and materials. d. Takes preliminary medical and dental history to be reviewed by the dentist. e. Places and removes rubber dams, matrix bands, ligature ties and temporary separating devices. f. Selects and pre-fits temporary crowns. g. Takes impressions for study casts, diagnostic casts, space maintainers and occlusal guards. h. Removes stitches placed by a dentist. i. Applies topical cavity-preventing and desensitizing agents to the teeth. j. Records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dentist and dental staff, as appropriate. k. Educates patients on oral healthcare. l. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential. m. Maintains patientsxe2x80x99 dental records. n. Maintains current credentialing. o. Completes paperwork in a timely manner. p. Completes appropriate and timely charting. q. Participates in quality assurance activities. r. Attends required meetings. s. Performs other duties as requested.
