The incumbent assists with oral surgery and other procedures, under the direct supervision of a dentist. This employee prepares and arranges needed tools and instruments for scheduled procedures, and hands necessary tools and equipment to the dentist and provides assistance during treatment. Furthermore, the Dental Assistant records findings, changes barriers, and sterilizes equipment. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Performs a variety of technical duties to assist dentists in the examination and treatment of patients. Screens patients for dental ailments. Assists in the dental treatment of patients, including seating patients, mixing filling and impression materials, and examining charts and treatment results on patientsxe2x80x99 dental records. Explains procedures and subsequent treatments needed to patients. Assists patients with questions, concerns, and medical history. Sets up for dental procedures according to each patientxe2x80x99s treatment. Records treatment results on patientxe2x80x99s dental record, instructs patients in the care of teeth and appliances, and provides instructional materials. Cleans, sterilizes, and assembles instruments, supplies, and equipment. Schedules and confirms appointments and requisitions supplies and equipment. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
