Position Summary: Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Dental Assistant – Paraprofessional – Boca Raton, FL Summary of Responsibilities: The Dental Assistant reports directly to the Dentist Manager and is responsible for executing tasks to facilitate the smooth flow of dental patients, from the point of scheduling dental patients, through the dental procedures, sterilization procedures and patient education. Direct patient care Assists dentist during all dental procedures using professional judgment to decide the type of pre-operative steps and organizing dental armamentarium. Independently takes dental radiographies prescribed by the dentist after assessing and customizing X-Ray machine to specific patient situations. Takes dental impressions using professional judgment for the selection of material used. Performs patient education in a professional manner. Schedules most initial dental appointments based on available patient time, urgency of symptoms, and time slots in the schedule. Greets and seats patients in the operatory room. Records and reviews dental history, medication, and allergies in the EHR. Charts existing dental conditions and treatment to be performed for the patient and prepares patient for check out. Applies a working knowledge of insurance plans accepted at SHS. Verifies insurance benefits and obtains a detailed customized plan to ensure that patients are billed correctly. Administrative work Cleans and sterilizes instruments for dental and medical clinics, maintaining infection control mechanisms at optimum levels. Interprets Sterilization Monitor Program protocols for SHS. Assesses and performs daily maintenance of sensitive dental equipment for smooth functioning and prioritizes the use of dental materials in compliance with SHS protocols and procedures. Maintains setup and breakdown of the operatory dental procedures. Check inventory and order dental supplies from multiple approved vendors while staying within the budget. Communicates with dental insurance companies via online provider portals, fax, and phone to attain accurate benefits information for insured dental patients prior to their appointment. Verifies patientxe2x80x99s dental history in the last five years with the dental plan to check procedure benefits have not already been used for the calendar or plan year. Documents patientxe2x80x99s coverage for relevant dental procedure codes in the patientxe2x80x99s chart. Maintain a collaborative, engaging and positive work environment for all students and staff. Participates in assessment, accreditation, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance. Actively participates in activities both internal out of SHS, is a champion of college health, and advances the SHS mission. Appropriate completion of FL Board of Dentistry-approved dental assisting school or program may substitute for experience and radiograph certificate. Experience with dental front desk work preferred but not required. Salary: $40,000 – $45,000 per year Exempt Administrative, Managerial, Professional (AMP) College or Department: Student Affairs: SHS – Dental Administration Location: Boca Raton Work Days and Hours: Monday – Fridays 8:00a.m. – 5:00p.m. with some nights and weekends.
