COMPETITIVE PAY! Responsible for providing preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene services to patients of the Medical Center. Ensures the instruments are cleaned and sterilized per manufacturersxe2x80x99 and infection control standards after each patient use. Performs oral prophylaxis for patients by removing calcareous deposits and stains from teeth and by scaling tartar accumulations from teeth and beneath margins of gums. Applies fluoride to teeth to aid in the prevention of cavities. Applies medicaments to gums and between teeth of patients. Educates patients about the etiology pathogenesis and management of periodontal disease. Exposes develops and mounts intra oral and extra oral radiographs used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment throughout the day. Cleans and sanitizes the operatory after each patient. Reviews the patientxe2x80x99s health history form and requests update when necessary. Reviews the patientxe2x80x99s medical history and oral condition and notes changes and extent of prophylaxis on the chart to provide the dentist with information for more complete diagnosis and subsequent treatment as needed. Determines if medication is needed prior to treatment and asks if patient has pre-medicated. Ask patients about any allergies that they might have. Requisitions supplies and equipment and maintains a well stocked operatory. Maintains clinic appearance and monitors area for any safety violation. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Position Compensation Range: – Hourly MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Associatexe2x80x99s Degree required. Completion of an approved dental hygiene program required. Experience: None. Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Dental Hygienist by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Dentistry. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
