The Dental Hygienist helps patients develop and maintain good oral health. Responsibilities include: remove soft and hard deposits from teeth (remove calculus, stains, and plaque from teeth); examine patientsxe2x80x99 teeth and gums, recording the presence of diseases or abnormalities; perform root planing as a periodontal therapy; take and develop dental x rays; and apply cavity-preventive agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants; teach patients how to practice good oral hygiene; and provide other preventive dental care. Other responsibilities include accurate maintenance of dental records and ongoing communication with other dental professionals and staff, dental business relationships and performance measurements. Workload and responsibilities may change from location to location. Integrate the hygiene program and service into the organizationxe2x80x99s primary functions. Assesses and improves the performance of hygiene and preventative care and services provided. Accountable for maintaining and improving job knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development. Knowledgeable of general safety and risk management procedures, (emergency situations including fire, disaster, and clinical emergencies) including medical crisis response kit readiness. Controlling the expense of hygiene operational supplies and equipment. Experience Demonstrated success and experience with direct patient hygiene services and the proper knowledge and use of dental devices and equipment. Demonstrated success in managing difficult patient/customer situations. Significant knowledge of dental practices and procedures. Demonstrated leadership skills including strong interpersonal and communications skills and ability to create a positive and productive environment. Demonstrated adaptability to handle changing priorities in a high volume, fast- paced work environment. Education Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene required, Bachelorxe2x80x99s Degree in Dental Hygiene preferred with an additional two (2) years or more experience in a large dental office or practice. Licensing and Certification Current and active Missouri State Dental Hygiene License required, Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Monitoring state certification preferred.
