Supervisory Dental Assistant

Under the general supervision of the Section Children’s Dental Center Director, perform dental assisting and manage the operation for the Clinic. The duties include: supervision, coordination of patient and dental student/resident flow according to the number of available faculty and operatory units in the clinic area; ensure state of art and efficient clinic operations and interact with parents on treatment plans and other inquiries. Provide dental assistance to students, residents and faculty. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Qualifications Working knowledge of current dental terminology, materials, equipment and procedures related to dentistry and working knowledge of four-handed dentistry. (Required) University patient care policy and procedures.Principles of asepsis, sterilization procedures and infection control and work with infectious disease patients. (Required) SOE electronic patient appointment system, AXIUM (Required) Ability to enforce clinic policies by following established procedures. (Required) Skill in performing repetitive work according to set procedures, sequence, and pace. (Required) Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately. (Required) Excellent oral & written communication skills, including ability to manage difficult patients, speaking clearly and distinctly using correct English to obtain and provide information and or policies & procedures and understanding both written and oral instructions. (Required) Organizational skills to set priorities to reflect relative importance of job responsibility and demonstrated skills in supervision to organize and delegate work flow, train and evaluate subordinates and institute new/or modify policies and procedures. (Required) Ability to organize and maintain an inventory of dental instruments equipment and supplies in the dental operatory, ability to control issuing supplies and equipment so as to minimize loss and maximize utilization and knowledge and ability to take an inventory & prepare reports. (Required) Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with faculty members, co- workers, students, patients and staff. Work as a member of a team and interrelate acceptably with patients, students and staff. (Required) Ability to handle multiple demands and frequent interruptions and maintain a professional demeanor. (Required) Skill in performing a number of dissimilar tasks and flexibility in altering daily task performance depending on workload. (Required) Skill in working independently and following through on assignment with minimal direction and supervision. (Required) Skill in supervision to organize and delegate work flow, train and evaluate staff and institute new/or modify old policies and procedures as needed to accomplish clinic goals effectively. (Required) Bilingual (Spanish/English) writing and verbal skills to translate and communicate in writing with patients/students/doctors. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Other Type of Degree Education and experience equivalent to a minimum of 3 years related experience.
