Department Eastside Dental Clinic Job Summary Under direct supervision, provides sub-professional dental work assisting dentist in the care and treatment of dental patients. Functions both as dental chair and office assistant. Assists the Dental Chair by passing instruments, preparing compounds, and assisting with taking x-rays and impressions. Ability to TRAVEL to all Denver Health dental clinics (Eastside, Westside, Southwest Pena, Montbello, Lowry, OMC, and Webb) to assist providers as needed. Essential Functions: Chair Side Duties: xe2x80xa2 Provides chair side assistance to the dentist in the examination & treatment of Pedodontics, Endodontics, Prosthetics, Oral Surgery, & other dental procedures. xe2x80xa2 Seats patients immediately, reviews Health History, takes x-rays with good visibility and contrast, expected to have dental set-up ready when dentist enters room, performs special treatment procedures, organizes and has operatory stocked with needed dental instruments & materials. (50%) Sterilization and Disinfection: xe2x80xa2 Sterilizes all dental instruments, handpieces, and counter-tops, & operatory’s. xe2x80xa2 Cares for Dental Equipment according to manufactures directions. xe2x80xa2 Follows guidelines of hospital policy for infection control. (20%) Scheduling and Office Tasks xe2x80xa2 Schedules patients for re-visit appointments. xe2x80xa2 Maintains patient records and indicates the type of work done. xe2x80xa2 Reviews patient record to determine the instruments needed by the Dentist. (10%) Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. (10%) Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patientxe2x80x99s care. (10%) Education: No High School Diploma and/or No GED Work Experience: 1-3 years of experience providing chair side assistance to a dentist in the examination and treatment of patients Required Licenses: BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) – AHA – American Heart Association Required and CDA-Certified Dental Assistant – DANB – Dental Assisting National Board Inc Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of filling compounds such as composites and amalgam. Knowledge of patient record maintenance procedures. Knowledge of safety guidelines. Skill in placing and positioning suction tubes in patients. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to follow Dentistxe2x80x99s instructions. Ability to schedule patients using in-house scheduling software. Ability to calm patient when necessary.
